Educational outreach has always been an important component of the Lomas Barbudal Monkey Project, since the earliest days of the project in 1990. We have loved our many visits to classrooms, our collaborative reforestation sessions, and our visits to community organizations, where we share our knowledge with members of Costa Rican and more global communities. We are also tremendously excited about our collaborations with “Amigos del Ambiente” including our new citizen science nature trail! And we were particularly looking forward to a summer filled with outreach projects in honor of the project’s 30th anniversary in the summer of 2020. But now that COVID-19-related social distancing prevents us from sharing our knowledge in person, my daughter Kate and I have decided to devote time this summer to sharing what we can of our monkey project memories and knowledge with all of you online. We hope we can convey how privileged we feel to have spent so much time with the capuchin monkeys, in the amazing tropical dry forests of Lomas Barbudal Biological Reserve, where there is always something new and exciting to discover. As Kate and I work on this project, we will take turns narrating, writing posts both in English and in Spanish. I pass this back to Kate now…
